Downloading

You can download Technotes in either Acrobat or AppleWorks formats. Those options are available on each individual Technote page. If you would like to take advantage of this, you need to first download the requisite software.

  • Acrobat Reader can be downloaded, free of charge, from Adobe,
  • AppleWorks can be purchased from Apple.

    Contributing a Technote

Apple welcomes contributions from all members of the Apple developer community. If you have solved a particularly gnarly engineering or design problem, or you want to share insights you've gained in addressing an important development or operating system issue with other Apple developers, a Technote may be just the right vehicle for you.

If you're interested in writing or contributing a Technote, you might want to check out the Author's Guidelines, which provide an outline of the structure Apple has evolved for Macintosh Technotes, and download the AppleWorks Technote Template; then contact Barb Kozlowski, at barbk@apple.com to discuss your idea.

    Indexing the "Old" Technical Notes

If you need a match between a Technical Note's old number and its reorganized new number, you'll want to download one of the three enclosed files. For example, old Technical Note 306, "Icon Drawing in 7," has been renumbered as Technical Note QD 18, "Drawing Icons the System 7 Way," and can be found in the QuickDraw folder.

This renumbering predates the new and revised Technotes.

The 3 downloadable files are in Microsoft Word 5.1a format, binhexed for Web accessing:
